Brunch at Voula's Greek Sweets

My first brunch stop was down the street. Located at 439 Monroe Ave, Voula's Greek Sweets is almost next door, and I can almost smell the delicious eats. Do not let the name mislead you - they have everything: breakfast, lunch and dinner, but YES - their fantastic sweets are their bright stars! As you can predict the restaurant has Mediterranean cuisine.

This place is absolutely adorable! It is welcoming and cozy. The rich decoration makes you feel like you are at your grandma's house. Mostly painted in white and blue, the saloon is full of photographs, paintings, spices, souvenirs and this makes you feel like a guest, not like a customer. The place smells like coffee and oregano. And the staff is very friendly and on top of the service.

The menu is the way I like it - nice and simple. It is rich but not annoyingly long, because at the end we do not go out for brunch to read...right?! :) They offer savory and sweet dishes and they have Greek coffee - what else could you possibly need?

Our meals choices were: a Kafteri Egg Sandwich ($ 8.75) and a Samos Plate ($11). Both dishes were fantastic. The sandwich was made of warm homemade flat bread and freshly made kafteri. Kafteri is a Greek feta dip with hot pepper and oregano. You can buy a variety of dips, teas, spices, and olive oil there, including freshly baked bread (see the first picture).

The Samos Plate was delicious. The idea of topping the scrambled eggs with lentils - just brilliant. The plate was garnished with lemon potatoes, toasts and of course, feta.

Before we left we had to take home some of their Mediterranean sweets.

I highly recommend this gorgeous downtown hidden treasure. And please, do not let the outside looks of this place to discourage you!

Oh, yeah, one more thing - they offer brunch Saturday AND Sunday!

Καλή Όρεξη!
