So here I was back to the Culver Road Armory. Last weekend on my way to the Village Bakery, I sneaked a peek to the left and I noticed that Trata is open for brunch as well, so I had to go back. I've always liked this restaurant but I just never thought of it as a brunch place... Well, I guess you can get your weekend breakfast at almost each restaurant in Rochester today.
Trata is a really cool place for dinner and drinks. It's always full and fun! In the summertime, there is nothing better than a rooftop, and Trata has one. Up there you can actually experience one of the few Rochester's weather advantage - the summer breeze.
Initially when we went in, the place seemed empty and this made me a little skeptical. Also the music was a little bit of a turn off. Don't get me wrong, the music itself was not bad, but it was an evening music, a club music. It did not really match the brunch mood. But then we were given the brunch menu and things quickly turned around. :)
We ordered the Baked "French toast" and the Fried Chicken and Waffle. I have never had this legendary brunch meal - chicken and waffle, so ordering it was a must! Once the chicken arrived, it looked like a whole freaking dinner meal! Absolutely delicious! In general, it is hard to go wrong with fried chicken but yet you can still spoil it - burn it or underseason it. This one was very well cooked. Of course, I had to ask for a doggy bag and my food for the rest of the day was provided.

The french toast was really good as well, it was stuffed with cream cheese and seasoned with cinnamon, which was a good combination, not allowing the toast to get too sweet.
Trata also offers all the brunch cocktails as well as some signiture ones. Our choice was a bloody mary. It's funny how this cocktait, originally made of tomato juice and vodka, today can easily turn into a whole meal by itself. Just google "bloody mary" images and you can see some crazy stuff! Trata gives you the option to add some shrimp on top of it - we passed on that.
Go and check it out, and try the chicken with waffle! The food is tasty and the place is dope. Somehow to me it is more suitable for dinner and cocktails than for bruch. At the same time you cannot get chocken and waffle at every brunch place in Rochester, so go for it.
