This Is Where They Keep the Light

Last week I went to Ox and Stone, another fabulous place in my neighborhood. I went there because I follow this restaurant on Instagram and I saw this picture of their breakfast paella. I love paella and I just couldn't get this image out my head. I though it was a great idea - everything tastes better with a yoke on top! :D

I have been there before but only at night time. It is a great place for dinner with friends, they make awesome cocktails, and overall the atmosphere is really fun. In the summer time they have a few tables outside, where you can enjoy the urban spirit of Rochester. They call themselves "Latin Kitchen. Cocktail Parlor. Social House" and they serve their brunch on Saturdays only, starting 11:30 am. That's a little late for me because I wake you starving at 9:30, but the wait was worth it!

It is amazing how different things look in the daylight. Ox and Stone holds all the light. The salon is absolutely gorgeous and the light coming through the windows turns the brunch into a real morning fiesta!

We started with freshly squeezed orange and grapefruit juice, and a Bloody Mary. For our brunch meals, we chose Chilaquiles ($10) and Breakfast Paella ($14).

The presentation of the paella was amazing - it looked like a photograph in a food magazine - stunning colors! It has chorizo, peppers, onions, saffron, and the fried egg on top, of course... Delicious! A little bit too spicy for my taste but very tasty.

The Chilaquiles is corn tortillas, queso, beans, salsa verde, onion, black beans, and fried egg. The green color is not the most appetizing, but damn...was it misleading?! This dish was definitely the front runner. I don't understand how they managed to keep the tortillas crispy under the salsa but it was nicely crunchy. Super great flavors!

Ox and Stone managed to keep us warm during this crazy "spring" weather, with its spicy flavors, warm atmosphere, and delicious drinks! I highly recommend it even if not for brunch, for drinks or dinner. Friendly staff and simplistic easy going interior.

¡Nos vamos, amigos!
