Let's take it to the Village, people!

I decided to keep it more casual last weekend, so I went to check out The Village Bakery. It is where the "cool kids" go - the Culver Road Armory. Among the hip stores and trendy restaurants, this bakery finds its perfect spot. The large windows and the heavily industrial interior design are very welcoming. It smells like freshly roasted coffee beans and steamy bread!
The audience is very vivid: from college students talking about the latest innovations in Optics, to a future bride meeting with her wedding planner to receiver her invitations, to a grandmother having breakfast with her high-school senior grandson to catch up. It's nice - I love all the different life stories happening under the roof of The Village Bakery. To be honest, I also appreciate the lack of small children running around my table on a Sunday morning...

Totally loving the black board menu and the simplicity of the self-service. I am also crazy about the little cock buzzers, aka the good news carriers "Your food is ready!". The variety of the breakfast and lunch sandwiches, salads, bagels and muffins is fantastic. Our choices were the Basil Chicken Salad sandwich ($8.95) and the Alex Breakfast sandwich ($7.95). I went for the Basil Chicken, which is a lunch sandwich and comes with chips a slice of pickle. I would rather have more than just one slice of pickle, but it was a delicious one piece of pickle... ;) The Alex is an open face egg breakfast sandwich with goat cheese, pesto and arugula. Absolutely fantastic! I am a sucker for pesto and anything that has to do with basil, but that was a great combination with the unique flavor of the goat cheese (check out the pictures in the gallery for a better visualization).

As many other places The Village Bakery sells its branded merchandise with the cute purple rooster, all the regulars - the T-shirts, the cups, the travel mugs, etc. But you can also purchase coffee beans from different parts of the world, locally made jams and jellies, variety of types of mustard, and many many more goodies with colorful flavors.
The Village Bakery is kind of a well-known breakfast spot but if you haven't checked it out yet, I recommend it. You can wear your sweatpants or your fancy pants, you can have a casual date there or just go and read your book on your own, anyway you will blend and definitely enjoy some good food!
